I was 7 and a half when I moved to the states. It was actually at the embassy the American embassy right before we flew out, that, that’s the first time that I ever saw a black man. It wasn’t even that I was sheltered. It’s just the environment that you’re raised in, um all I knew were Caucasian people with blonde hair, brunette hair and sometimes red hair and that’s it. You’re never really taught about anything else. Here’s the truth I was frightened. And the beautiful thing was the man spoke Russian. And he explained to me that there are people in this world that were of different colour. And um, I being 7 and a half years old asked him does that mean there a purple people in this world, and does that mean there are read people in this world. And it wasn’t for any other reason if there are people of colour than there must be any colours. And so that was my first experience on American soil.
